The synergy and collaboration between Tecnova and INDUSER results in an innovative development for the optimization of broccoli packaging.

El Ejido, Almería, Spain on September 21st 2022.- This morning, at the TECNOVA facilities located in the Almería Science and Technology Park (PITA), the “R2B2” project was presented.

As on other occasions, the Tecnova Technology Center and INDUSER have joined talent and commitment to develop and innovative broccoli cutting system which objective is to automate the cutting and packaging process of this product with such qualities.

To do this, a robotic cell has been implemented that will serve various machines and independent systems (vision cameras, cutting system), adapting and bringing to the agro industry the concept of a flexible manufacturing system used in the industrial field.

A system that will be completely autonomous (being able to work for long periods of time without the need for human assistance) and that will consist of an artificial vision system that will estimate the cutting point of the broccoli stem so that it presents a 1:1 ratio, and finally, be able to identify those broccolis that do not meet the minimum requirements for subsequent sale to the public.

The prototype, validated by Daniel Martino (agronomist at CDTI), has gone through a series of milestones that began in December 2021. First, the robotic system for handling the product was developed, a second milestone considered the development of the terminal element for the robotic system, later the development of the vision system, followed by the integration of all the developments, and finally, the evaluation of the development as a whole.

The “R2B2” is one of the several projects that Tecnova has developed hand in hand with INDUSER to put technology at the service of the continuous improvement of the processes in the fruit and vegetable sector.
